Suspension of trading in NIS shares marks the trading week

Belgrade Stock Exchange’s decision to temporarily halt trading in shares of the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIIS) marked the trading week. Total turnover amounted to RSD 386.3m (EUR 3.3m), while the Belex15 index fell for the third consecutive week, this time by 0.5%.

NIS weakened by 5.7% to RSD 718 in the first two trading days of the week before the Belgrade Stock Exchange decided to suspend trading in the stock until 28 January, while the Securities Exchange Commission changed the duration of the decision “to the end of the reason for the temporary suspension of trading”. The decision followed after the US administration introduced sanctions on the NIS, and the Belgrade Stock Exchange justified this decision by saying that the sanctions “could affect the company’s operations as well as the stock price.” Trading in the stock expects to resume when information that could shed light on the fate of this company is released.

The most active stock was the Belgrade Airport (AERO), which broke through the psychological RSD 2,000 barrier for the first time in a long time. Total turnover reached RSD 24.1m with a 0.5% increase to RSD 2,010. Concessionaire VINCI announced that the airport in Belgrade handled 8.4m passengers last year, a rise of 5.3% over the previous year.

Shares in Messer Tehnogas (TGAS) rose slightly to RSD 35,500 on a solid turnover of RSD 12.1n, while Dunav Osiguranje (DNOS) recovered 1.4% to RSD 1,375 on low volume.

Last week, the takeover bid for Energoprojekt Holding (ENHL) ended with the bidder, Napred Razvoj, acquiring just 0.1% of the shares at RSD 375 per share. Napred increased its stake in the company to 55.6%.
